Musings from 5 weeks

Well, here I am sitting at my desk, working away, with the greatest news in our little world tucked away safe and sound in my tummy. I've always been terrible at keeping secrets and honestly, no one warned me about this part! It's killing me!I want to tell the world! I want to shout it from the rooftops! I want to tell every stranger I meet, in fact, it was such a relief to tell the nurse at the Dr's office and to say "I'm pregnant" outloud, but for the loved ones, I will have to wait.

I have been having some scary little nagging cramps so I am going for an early ultrasound tomorrow b/c the doctor suggested the worst case scenario to me and just about scared me to death... but you know what? I have such a peace. I feel so calm right now. Having known only for 5 1/2 days, I am definitely feeling well. No sickness, just so tired and STARVING! Oh and alot of trips to the b.r.

I can't wait to tell our friends, I can't wait to see my parent's faces! We want to fly home and surprise them. The next 8 months are going to be so fun...

Am already starting to feel some changes in the bod- owell, bye bye flatness...

We're Expecting!!

There's a turkey in the oven!!

November of 2008- we will have a new member of the family! How exciting... just in time for Thanksgiving!

Our testimony: Ok, so we've been married 6 years, and 3 months by now and let's just say that some people in our lives are MORE than anxious for us to start our family (hugh uhmmmm grandparents)...but you know what? No one was more excited about that than we were. We were just waiting for God's perfect plan!

We finished 4 years of school together and then I found out I needed a spine surgery which would further delay this joy. However, our life has been so fun, traveling, late night errands, or spontaneously going somewhere basically whenever we want. We decided that when we finally hold our first child in our arms, we will be so ready!

The story: March 20th was Thursday and I had suspected something was changing inside me, but I wasn't sure. I knew I probably needed to take a test (again) but was so enjoying the very idea that I actually might be pregnant, that I really didn't want to see the negative sign to ruin my joy. However, after spending 2 hours walking around Target, I decided to be brave and buy one. On the way home, I realized I had not gotten out of the store with the test...I had left it at the counter. I went back in and was hoping for a woman to be there. I asked for a bag of toothpaste and a PT (how embarrassing!) Sure enough, we found the bag right where the bagger had left it, still on the bagging rack. I rushed home and ran into the bathroom- semi nervous as always. (Michael was home from his workout and sitting at the desk.)

As sure as I was looking at the test, it magically turned into a plus sign right in front of my eyes. I thanked Jesus outloud. My mind and body surged with adrenaline.

Now... I, (Abby) have had some time to think about what I was going to say to my sweet husband at this moment, however, one never knows how you will actually react in a situation. After all, this is the single most exciting event in our marrige thus far... and all I could say while holding the test was "yep"!! (Wow. Creative, Abby.) After alot of crying and laughing and blubbering on my part... Michael calmly smiled and said, "I love you."

We are in shock, could this really be happening to us? Is this how everyone feels at this very moment? I cannot imagine anyone feeling anything else but pure joy and excitement at the discovery that God has loved one enough to place life inside one's very body.

I have known God to be preparing me for something, but could it be something so wonderful and so sacred? I wasn't sure. Now I am sure. What a gift, what a special time.

This last picture was taken yesterday on Easter, March 23, 2008.

This blog will not be public for at least a couple months...but I wanted to capture the moment anyway!

The Flaming Red Coral Tree

Michael and I love this tree, so yesterday I snuck away from my desk and got a picture of it. Something I've always wanted to do is catch it at all it's different stages throughout the next year. It's amazing, it begins with only bare branches (no red or leaves) changes to all green (no red flowers) then to all red (no green leaves) and then to only branches again.

There was a student laying on the lawn under the tree, it was a nice day for it.

It's called a Erythrina, or "Coral Tree". I've never seen them on the East Coast, because they are quite tropical.

Close up of the coral like cone clusters.

Isaiah 48:11 Poem

To capture the events of the day,
To look at life, to ponder and say,
“I doubt, I don’t get it, please show us the way…”

God looks down, as if to tell the story,
Instead He just smiles, “It’s all for my glory.”

Abby Clark 2002
Inspired by Isaiah 48:11
“Isaiah 48:11 “For my own sake, for my own sake, I do this. How can I let myself be defamed? I will not yield my glory to another.”
I wrote this poem years ago, but today it seemed relevant. Hope you enjoy.

Face Lift

Praise the Lord for people's generosity! We got some really nice free couches from a friend from church and bought our first pieces of furniture. Our apt got a face lift! It is exciting, it's like we moved but without moving. We used to have the couches from my parents, that were older than me! We needed a change- so we decided to 86 those couches. Here is what our old Living room looked like-

Enter new couch and love seat- and a sundry of other new nic-nacks.

New love seat and coffee table with cubbies for all my magazines and bible/reading material and a new red lamp!

New couch- 3 seater!
New side table also complete with cubbies!

New desk for our filing- no more loose paperwork hanging about!

We love our little home, and we are so thankful for all that we have. God has blessed us abundantly!

Secret Sweetie Gift Exchange

I am so very new at this. I feel like I am not the most interesting person to read about...but you have to start writing somewhere...

Today at work, we had a little luncheon with some of the ladies for Valentines day. It's a secret gift exchange that lasts all week and at the end of the week (today) you have a reveal luncheon. We all found out out our "secret sweetie" was and it was a blast- always is. Here's a pic of some of the decor that my friend, Megan, and I put together...

Gift giving is fun, I really enjoy it...
Jesus Christ is the ultimate gift giver. We love because He first loved us. We don't have the cheap love that the world gives, but a life of rich abundant love from Him that we can freely give to others.

I love that hymn, "I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God, I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by his blood, Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod, I'm so glad I'm part of the family of God." Once a southerner, always a southerner. I love hymns....they come out of the core of my being...
